Sweet Home New Orleans Blues Guitar Slim Jr. R&B Series

The legendary Guitar Slim died at the young age of 34 in 1959. However before he died he set his young son Rodney on the path to blues guitar mastery. With a Grammy award nominated album, Rodney, better known as Guitar Slim Jr., has proven that guitar genius is in his DNA. Since the name “Guitar Slim” was never trademarked by his father (who trademarked names in the 40′s and 50′s?) other musicians have stolen the name in an attempt to associate themselves with the legend. Rodney Armstrong proves, once again, that while the others are mere pretenders to the throne, he is the only one with the right to carry his father’s name and the only one with the guitar mastery and showmanship to continue his father’s legacy. Guitar Slim Jr. plays “How Blue Can You Get” for the Sweet Home New Orleans Summer R&B Series at Banks Street Bar in New Orleans. Guitar Slim Jr. takes this opportunity to step out with a blues classic and to also show his talent at subduing a group of loud, drunken patrons at the bar. Throughout the song Guitar Slim Jr. tries to quiet the audience by engaging them in the music. He finally succeeds by bringing one of the respectful members of the audience, Paige Royer, Sweet Home New Orleans benefactor and Chair of the organization’s Development Board to the stage for some blues-style audience participation. Sweet Home New Orleans provides the Summer R&B Music Series as a part of their ongoing effort to promote and preserve New Orleans’ unique and rich music
